First thursday - study day
So Thursdays are the day that we don't have any set lectures or online learning activities, however, we should use it to study which is what I did today!
I started my morning off by finishing the first of my three power points about the roles during the three stages of production. I sent it to Gareth who said "Yeah they look pretty good, I'm not sure about the difference between a screenwriter and scriptwriter though - I always thought they were the same term for the same thing. Although a script is a generic term (ie could be a theatre, film or tv script), whereas a screenplay is for film & tv."
I think he is right that the terms are interchangeable, however, there seems to be some disagreement in the industry about this. I have read many conflicting articles about it.

I spent the rest of my morning writing about the rode NT1 and Zoom h4. I decided to create a diagram showing how to use the Zoom H4 and write an academic paper about the microphone. I actually learned a lot about sound by doing this because as I've mentioned sound has never really grabbed my interest. But, learning about how the mic works and how reverb is created is interesting. I enjoy the science behind it all. I decided to practice Harvard Referncing whilst writing this paper and once it was completed I showed it to Jean Claude who said "Yes, that’s what Harvard Referencing is like!"
Things I learned: Uni-directional microphones, also known as cardiod microphones, have a foam like material in the back of them. This means that when sound approaches from the rear it is slowed down as it passes through the foam which results in the sound entering the back and the sound that has had to travel round and enter in the front end up hitting the diaphragm at the same time and cancelling each other out.
If very similar soundwaves arrive at a destination with less than a 50ms delay between them they will combine into a longer sound which is called reverb.

I also submitted my Learning Journey to Jean Claude who said "Thanks John-Paul - yes, perfect, just the ticket, nice work, clear and good visualisation!"
Overall, a very successful day!
