Thursday - JC group chat, writing my report, location recce photos
This morning Jourdain phoned me and asked for some assistance writing a logline and working on her idea. She pitched an idea about a police officer whose girlfriend is killed in the midst of a zombie apocalypse before he meets a man with a time machine. The police officer goes back in time but doesn't realise he has been bitten and he ends up being the cause of the initial outbreak.
I told her I thought it was an interesting idea and was clearly playing around with the grandfather paradox. But, I thought she might refine the idea and cut off the unnecessary details. For example;
- Do the police officer and the researcher have to be different characters?
- Do need the establishing scenes before the apocalypse?
- Why not start the film with a former police officer locked in a lab trying to build a time machine as the zombies claw their way inside?
- Perhaps he is obsessed with going back in time because he wants to save his true love? It isn't about saving the world but instead about something more relatable.
The blue group had a discussion with JC regarding our film ideas. I really enjoyed this session, I think it might be my favourite session so far!
Basically, the group presented their ideas and we could all chime in on what we thought but I was great at helping people refine their ideas! Even JC commented on it, he was very impressed by me it seemed. I'll admit I am actually not feeling too confident about my ideas so I am going to write a report on my idea "First Impressions" "Armed with ability to travel back in time to when he first met the perfect girl, a man tries his best to win her heart" or a report on my idea about the friendzone
I feel as though these ideas are good but I can't picture them in my head like I can with Moriah, Safire or Dear Santa.
Hopefully, writing about them will spark some creativity.

I have started writing my report. Sort of nervous about Harvard referencing, I don't want to use just online resources but with COVID it can be hard to access the library. I wrote three paragraphs today and will finish it tomorrow.
I already feel like this film idea isn't the film that I would like to make. I am researching statistics on the friend zone and the science behind it but nothing is sparking my imagination. I fear my movie is doomed to be a shallow attempt at repeating the storytelling techniques of Before Sunrise.
On a side note, I did learn a bit of interesting trivia during my research. Kevin Smith wrote Chasing Amy about his relationship with Joey Lauren Adams who portrayed Alyssa in the film.

I got my location recce photos and will complete the recce tomorrow. I think we are applying this to the Born to be Wild script which is exciting.
